About 30 more children with autism spectrum disorder received dental care from specialists of the "Health Train." In total, as part of the regional social project "A Healthy Smile for Special Children. Health Train," doctors have already treated 60 young residents of Nizhny Novgorod.
As the regional Ministry of Health reported, the "Health Train" specialists previously held consultations in Arzamas, and now in Pavlov and Lukoyanov.
In Pavlov, the mobile dental complex operated at the rehabilitation center for children and adolescents with disabilities. Children received professional oral hygiene, while their parents were able to receive detailed consultations on preparing the children for dental examinations. The play-based approach was of particular interest to the young patients — children were allowed to try being dentists themselves, which helped them adapt to the procedures more easily.
In Lukoyanov, the "Health Train" worked at the site of the comprehensive center for social services. Doctors performed professional cleanings, treatments and extractions, and also conducted preventive examinations. Parents of the young Nizhny Novgorod residents were also advised on how to reduce anxiety in children with ASD during dental visits.
As the regional Ministry of Health reminded, the project was initiated by the Regional Dental Polyclinic, the Nizhny Novgorod Association of Dentists, the Center for Social Development and the Public Chamber of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The next stops on the doctors’ route will be Volodarsk and Kstovo.
"The main feature of this project is that we do not merely provide medical assistance, but create a comfortable environment for children with autism spectrum disorder. All our specialists have undergone additional specialized training to find an individual approach to each patient. We note how the level of anxiety in children who require a particularly delicate approach is gradually decreasing. It is no less important that we can provide real help and support to parents," emphasized Anatoly Sidorin, chief physician of the Regional Dental Polyclinic.
The "Health Train" project has been implemented at the initiative of the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, since 2018. The work of the mobile diagnostic complexes helps achieve the goals and objectives provided by the new national project "Longer and Active Life."
The national project "Longer and Active Life" was launched in the country in 2025 at the instruction of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. It is aimed at the expected increase in life expectancy by 2030 and envisages further renovation of polyclinics, outpatient clinics and feldsher-midwife stations, attracting more qualified medical personnel to medical institutions, applying new approaches to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases, improving emergency medical care and rehabilitation systems, developing a network of national research centers, and digitizing the sector. The national project includes 11 federal projects: "Health for Everyone," "Modernization of Primary Healthcare," "Medical Personnel," "Combating Cardiovascular Diseases," "Combating Oncological Diseases," "Combating Diabetes," "Combating Hepatitis and Minimizing the Risks of Disease Spread," "Improvement of Emergency Medical Care," "Development of Federal Medical Organizations, including the Development of a Network of National Research Centers," the national platform "Health," and "Optimal Medical Rehabilitation for Restoring Health."
