      American investment company SMG Capital, founded by tech entrepreneur from the Nizhny Novgorod region Sergey Mosunov, has agreed to buy the luxury brand Fabergé from British Gemfields. The deal amount will be $50 million, Interfax reports.

      Under the terms of the agreement, Gemfields will receive $45 million immediately after the deal closes, which is expected to take place in August. The remaining $5 million will be paid as royalties in equal quarterly installments.

      Sergey Mosunov, who is also a partner in the venture fund The Garage Syndicate, stressed that he considers the acquisition of Fabergé an important step. According to him, being the owner of such an iconic and internationally recognized brand is a great honor. He noted that the company will continue to focus on producing jewelry, accessories and watches.

      Gemfields CEO Sean Gilbertson called the deal the end of an era. He noted that Fabergé played a significant role in popularizing the colored gemstones mined by Gemfields itself, and added that the company will miss the marketing potential of the brand.

      It is also reported that Gemfields acquired Fabergé more than ten years ago, but in December 2023, amid a difficult market situation, it began a strategic review of the asset.

      In addition, open sources indicate that Sergey Mosunov currently does not hold positions or own stakes in Russian companies. He currently lives in the United Kingdom.
