      The candidate registration phase for the elections to the first-convocation City Duma has concluded in Nizhny Novgorod. A total of 227 contenders representing six political parties were registered, the Nizhny Novgorod election commission reports.

      The largest number of candidates were nominated by United Russia, LDPR and the Pensioners' Party — 39 candidates each. Slightly fewer are from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) (38 candidates), New People (37) and A Just Russia (35).

      The elections for deputies of the City Duma of the first convocation will take place on the single voting day on September 14. The winners will form the new representative body of Nizhny Novgorod.
