The velvet season remains an attractive time for travel: in September and October, the weather stays comfortable, tourist flow decreases, and accommodation prices drop. The "Yandex Travel" service analysts analyzed booking data and search queries for September and October 2024 and 2025, revealing how the popularity of the Nizhny Novgorod region has changed and which destinations residents prefer.

In 2025, interest in the Nizhny Novgorod region among tourists remains high. The average cost per night in local hotels and apartments is 7,230 rubles. Typically, travelers stay about two nights in the region, and the planning process begins an average of 98 days before the trip.

Compared to last year, interest in the region has increased by 59%. This may be related to warm autumn weather, a variety of accommodation options for every budget, and the growing preference among tourists for proven and comfortable destinations within the country.

In autumn, the locals themselves are active. They most often travel within Russia to the Krasnodar Krai, Saint Petersburg, Leningrad Oblast, as well as to Moscow and the Moscow region.

According to "Yandex Travel" data, most tourists continue to choose hotels for accommodation — their share is 84%. The most popular are unrated hotels (32%) and establishments in the 3- and 4-star categories (29% and 25.5%, respectively).

During the velvet season of 2025, diverse payment methods are maintained. Almost every fifth traveler (19.2%) prefers to pay the full amount upfront. However, the majority (80.8%) opt for the option to pay in installments. This approach allows fixing the price in advance and evenly distributing expenses, which is especially convenient with early reservations.

It was previously reported that the number of car tourists in the Nizhny Novgorod region increased by nearly 25% over the first seven months of 2025.
