Starting August 1, 2025, residents of Nizhny Novgorod will be able to officially opt out of receiving promotional SMS messages from mobile operators. From September 1, the same option will be available for bulk phone calls. These measures are part of the first federal package to combat cybercrime, announced by the press service of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation.
Advertising mailings and calls are often used to push unwanted services or for fraudulent purposes. Now, subscribers will be able to protect themselves from such messages by submitting an application during a personal visit to a service salon or via the operator’s website. The disconnection will occur the day after the request is made.
If in the future the user decides to receive such notifications again, they can cancel their opt-out using the same method. All details about the service can be clarified with their communication provider.
These measures are implemented as part of the national project "Data Economy and Digital Transformation of the State," launched on January 1, 2025, by order of President Vladimir Putin. The project aims to enhance digital security and protect citizens from fraudulent activities.
It was previously reported that the Ministry of Digital Development has developed a "white list" of services that will operate even if internet access is blocked.
