In the Nizhny Novgorod region, 81 confirmed cases of tick-borne borreliosis have been recorded. Among the infected are five children. This was reported on August 8 by the regional Rospotrebnadzor office.
In addition, two cases of tick-borne viral encephalitis were registered in the Varnaivsky district and in Vyksa. Three more patients were infected outside the region—in Ivanovo Oblast, Altai Krai, and Karelia.
Prophylactic treatment after tick bites was required for 1,288 residents of the region, including 1,236 children. This indicates high parasite activity and the need for timely medical measures.
Specialized laboratories in the region examined 8,160 ticks. In 1,431 cases, tests revealed the presence of dangerous infections.
The highest number of contact with ticks occurred in garden plots—22% of the total cases. Bites were also recorded in private yards, forests, rural areas, cemeteries, parks, and squares.
It was previously reported that more than 7,500 residents of Nizhny Novgorod have already been exposed to tick attacks this year.
