
Nizhny Novgorod resident sentenced to 9 years for participating in an armed Ukrainian formation

Incidents A resident of the Nizhny Novgorod region has been sentenced to nine years in prison for participating in an illegal armed formation operating in Ukraine. This was reported by the FSB press service for the region.
According to the investigation, in 2015, the man traveled abroad and joined an armed group controlled by the banned organization "Right Sector" in Russia. Members of this group actively participated in hostilities against the People's Militias of the DPR and LPR.
After several months in the conflict zone, the man left Ukraine and returned to Russia through third countries. In 2023, officers of the Nizhny Novgorod FSB identified his involvement in criminal activities. Based on collected materials, the investigation department initiated a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 208 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Organization of an illegal armed formation or participation in it, as well as participation in an armed conflict or military actions contrary to the interests of the Russian Federation). The suspect was detained and held in custody pending trial.
The Nizhny Novgorod District Court found the man guilty and sentenced him to 9 years in a high-security penal colony. The verdict has entered into legal force.
Earlier, there was a report of the detention in Nizhny Novgorod of a participant in the banned Ukrainian organization "All-Ukrainian Spiritual Center 'Rebirth,'" recognized as undesirable on the territory of Russia.
