Society Nearly half of soil samples in the Nizhny Novgorod region showed elevated levels of microbes. This was reported by the Nizhny Novgorod Testing Laboratory of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "VNIIZH."
In the first seven months of 2025, specialists conducted 900 microbiological analyses of 380 soil samples. The studies focused on sanitary indicator and pathogenic bacteria, including enterococci, general coliform bacteria (GCB), and Escherichia coli.
According to the analysis results, 47% of the samples did not meet hygienic standards. This means that almost every second sample contained levels of microbiological contamination above permissible limits.
Experts state that such violations can pose health risks. Soil can accumulate harmful substances and become a source of infection spread, especially if contaminated with sewage, waste, or products from industrial activities.
All data are entered into the federal monitoring system "Vesta." The studies help identify dangerous sites (such as former landfills or areas near farms) and enable timely measures to prevent the use of contaminated land.
It was previously reported that 15 samples of food products tested positive in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
