      Society Residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region spent an average of 6,500 rubles on medications in the first half of 2025. This is 780 rubles more than in the same period last year, according to data from the analytical company RNC Pharma.

      In terms of expenditure, the region ranks only below a few other entities in the country. Residents of Moscow spent more on medication (7,700 rubles), as did those in Kamchatka Krai, Krasnodar Krai, and Magadan Oblast—about 7,000 rubles. The highest expenses were recorded among residents of St. Petersburg (8,410 rubles) and Moscow Region (8,220 rubles). The lowest medication spending was in Chechen Republic—about 550 rubles per person.

      The average cost of a medication package in the Nizhny Novgorod region was 379.4 rubles. In comparison, in Moscow this figure was 531.5 rubles, in St. Petersburg — 494.5 rubles, and in Chukotka Autonomous Okrug — 493.2 rubles.

      The region is among the top ten leaders in revenue from the sale of medicines and parapharmaceuticals. In the first six months of 2025, total revenue reached 24.4 billion rubles. Of this amount, retail sales accounted for 19.8 billion rubles, which is 13.7% more than in the first half of 2024.

      The number of pharmacies in the region also increased. As of June 1, 2025, there were 2,120 pharmacy establishments operating in the region—159 more than on the same date last year.
