      The former head of the Department of Government Affairs of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Yury Bortnikov, who is suspected in a case of large-scale embezzlement, has had his measure of restraint changed. He is now under house arrest, NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" learned from the regional court’s press service.

      The department clarified that by the decision of the Moskovsky District Court of Nizhny Novgorod on August 4, 2025, the restriction of freedom has been extended until September 9, 2025, inclusive.

      Recall that Bortnikov was detained in February 2025. Investigators believe that the former official is involved in the theft of substantial budget funds.

      The investigation is ongoing, and Bortnikov and his defense deny the charges.

      Earlier, it was reported that in Balakhna, Nizhny Novgorod region, a verdict was passed against the director and chief accountant of a municipal enterprise, accused of embezzling funds in a particularly large amount.
