Since August 1, a law aimed at combating phone spam has come into effect in Russia. Now, operators are required to delete the subscriber’s number from the mailing database upon request. This can be done by submitting a statement through the personal account, and the action must be completed within a day. The law, which has come into force, was commented on by Yevgeny Lyulin, the chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, on his Telegram channel.
Lyulin believes that these measures have long been overdue. He reminded that most people regularly receive promotional messages they did not subscribe to. Now everyone has the opportunity to protect themselves from intrusive SMS.
Lyulin admitted that spam messages interfered with his work. "And it’s not just that they clutter the phone’s memory. Many messages contained suspicious links, which are dangerous to click," the politician emphasized.
According to the speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the problem is much more serious than just annoying notifications. Police data shows that in 2024, the number of cybercrimes increased by 36%, and the total damage to citizens from fraud reached 200 billion rubles. "This lawlessness needed to be stopped," Lyulin stated.
The chairman of the Legislative Assembly noted that order will be established gradually. In August, a ban on mass SMS broadcasts came into effect, and from September 1, phone calls will also be restricted. Complaints about unwanted calls can be filed through the "Gosuslugi" portal.
Earlier, it was reported that administrative liability was introduced for begging in public places in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
