      Parents in the Nizhny Novgorod region are endangering children by purchasing motor vehicles for them. This was reported at a press conference at NOIC by Vladimir Ezhov, head of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      In the first half of the year, 73 traffic accidents involving children were recorded in the region, which is 3.5% less than the same period last year. In 25 cases, teenagers under 16 were behind the wheel of bicycles, and in 48 cases, they were managing moped vehicles.

      Vladimir Ezhov reminded that motocross equipment is not a toy, and helmets do not always save lives. According to him, parents should understand the consequences of their actions and prevent children from operating vehicles without proper training.

      "Unfortunately, our parents mindlessly purchase pit bikes and mopeds, knowingly aware that, firstly, the child lacks the technical skills to operate such vehicles, and secondly, does not know the traffic rules," noted the police officer.

      Ezhov also reported that in the first half of 2025, there was an 8% increase in traffic accidents involving children in the Nizhny Novgorod region, and the number of injured teenagers increased by 6%. Four children died, which is twice as many as in the same period last year.

      It was previously reported that during the first six months of this year, 137 people died in traffic accidents in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
