      Society A park named after legendary hockey player Viktor Konovalov will appear in Nizhny Novgorod. This decision was made at a meeting of the committee for commemorating outstanding individuals and historical events, held by the chairman of the city council, Evgeny Chintsev, on July 29, 2025.

      The committee members unanimously supported the initiative of Gorky Automobile Plant to name one of the green areas in the Avtozavodsky district after Konovalov. The park will be located along Ilyich Avenue, between the Krasny Par'tizan and Vatutina streets.

      Viktor Konovalov was an outstanding goalkeeper for the USSR national hockey team and the Gorky "Torpedo" team. He was a two-time Olympic champion, eight-time World Champion, and seven-time European Champion. An Honored Master of Sports of the USSR and an Honorary Citizen of the Nizhny Novgorod region, he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour and the Order of the Badge of Honor.

      The committee also approved the relocation of the memorial plaque dedicated to Alexander Grishin, a participant in the Great Patriotic War. Currently, it is installed on the facade of house No. 3 on Hero Usilov Street, near the fourth entrance. The hero’s relatives proposed moving the plaque to the end of the building by the first entrance, where a graffiti portrait of Grishin, created as part of the "Image of Victory" project, was previously displayed. There, a flagpole and a flower holder have also been installed, which are absent at the current location.

      It is worth noting that in 2022, a portrait of the legendary Nizhny Novgorod hockey player Viktor Konovalov appeared on Politboyts Street in the Avtozavodsky district.
