Society At the site of the future cable car station "Zarechnaya" in Nizhny Novgorod, the installation of construction barriers has begun. This was reported by the UrbanTech Group of Companies, which is implementing the project.
Instead of traditional fences, the company decided to give the construction site an aesthetic appearance. In collaboration with the N.I. V. Higher School of Economics Design School in Nizhny Novgorod, a competition was organized among students to develop a visual design for the barriers.
Participants were asked to rethink the standard approach to construction sites and demonstrate that barriers can be not only functional but also serve as a means of visual communication with residents and tourists.
As a result of the competition, each of the cable car construction sites will receive its own unique design — one of the three winning student concepts. The installation of these art barriers will be the final stage of preparatory work before the main construction begins.
For pedestrian convenience, informational banners with directions to the "Zarechnaya" metro station and nearby public transport stops will be integrated into the barriers.
The future cable car will connect three stations: "Gagarin Avenue," "Quiet Harbor," and "Zarechny Boulevard." Each station will feature modern infrastructure solutions: toilets, mother and child rooms, safety zones, operator rooms, and comfortable waiting areas for passengers.
New-generation cabins will be equipped with surveillance cameras, communication buttons with the dispatcher, LCD screens, audio systems, and USB ports for device charging. The architectural concept of the stations was developed by the Nizhny Novgorod bureau "Gora."
It is expected that by 2033, over 700,000 square meters of housing will be introduced on both sides of the Oka River. The population increase will require new solutions in transportation, and the cable car is expected to become a tool to reduce the load on urban infrastructure.
Earlier, it was reported that at the Moscow architectural exhibition, a model of a second cable car line was presented, which is to pass across the Oka River in Nizhny Novgorod.
