The average resident of Nizhny Novgorod encounters approximately 2,250 geomagnetic storms during their lifetime. Despite this frequency, scientists have not yet found significant effects of these phenomena on human health, said Aleksei Nikonov, editor-in-chief of MIAs "Stationary-Press," in his Telegram channel.
Russian researchers continue to study how magnetic fluctuations may influence the body. In experiments, they record changes in heart rate, brain electrical activity, stress levels, and other physiological indicators.
According to Dmitry Kotik, senior researcher at the Scientific-Research Radiophysical Institute of NNGBU, certain coincidences have indeed been observed. For example, the Laboratory of the Institute of Space Research identified weak correlations between geomagnetic activity and physiological changes. However, as the scientist emphasized, these data do not indicate the presence of serious medical risks.
From a scientific perspective, magnetic storms do not pose a danger to most people. However, they can cause problems in the technical sector — geomagnetic currents can overload equipment, overheat transformers, and cause failures. Power systems with long lines and high voltage are particularly vulnerable to such disturbances.
It was previously reported that a magnetic storm could impact the well-being of residents of Nizhny Novgorod on July 27-28.
