A meeting of the committee on economics, industry, support for entrepreneurship, trade, and tourism was held at the Legislative Assembly. Deputies discussed information on the results and prospects of economic cooperation between the Nizhny Novgorod region and the Republic of Belarus. As noted by the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly, Evgeny Lyulin, Belarus is one of the key strategic partners of the Nizhny Novgorod region.

In terms of trade volume with Nizhny Novgorod, Belarus ranks third after China and India. According to the results of the first quarter of 2025, exports from the Nizhny Novgorod region to Belarus increased by 7% compared to the same period last year.

"Belarus is our close friend and reliable ally. Over a thousand Nizhny Novgorod enterprises export their products there: automotive equipment, plastics, chemicals, food products. The results of the Russia-Belarus regional forum held in June in Nizhny Novgorod are notable — 100 contracts worth nearly 20 billion rubles. Amid sanctions and difficulties, growth is observed. Just imagine: the supply of Dzerzhinsk chemicals to Belarus increased by 30% in half a year! Automotive companies in Nizhny Novgorod buy components from more than 40 Belarusian enterprises. Belarusians built a school in Arzamas and will build one in Balakhna. In Vorsk, we produce trams "MiniN" with Belkommunmash. Arzamas electrical engineers purchase Belarusian machinery. There are thousands of such examples," emphasized Evgeny Lyulin.

"To become stronger, we are joining efforts across all sectors. I remind you that the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod region was the first in Russia to sign cooperation agreements with regional soviets across all Belarusian regions. In August, we will open another Congress of Small Towns of the Nizhny Novgorod and Grodno regions in Mosty. We expect municipal authorities to share their experiences in supporting agro-industrial complex, youth policies, and tourism. In turn, we are ready to share our developments. These joint projects and specific initiatives are building a unified Union State," said the regional parliament speaker.

"Effective interaction at events like the Regional Forum allows for an exchange of experience in legislative affairs, youth policy, folk crafts, and tourism. Business missions by municipal entities are also gaining momentum, enabling entrepreneurs to negotiate cooperation directly. Successful examples already include constructing schools and joint production of electric transport in Vorsk. In August, the Congress of Small Towns will take place in Mosty, where we will discuss new projects, including tourism development and support for small territories. Belarus demonstrates excellent practices that we are ready to adopt. We expect that in 2025, joint projects will receive a new boost, strengthening economic and social ties between the regions," said Igor Norenkov, head of the committee on economics, industry, support for entrepreneurship, trade, and tourism of the Legislative Assembly.

"The cooperation between the Nizhny Novgorod region and Belarus is characterized by a comprehensive approach and covers a wide range of industries. These are not one-time projects but strategic partnerships aimed at long-term and mutually beneficial collaboration, especially in trade and economic spheres. Today, the region has five Belarusian partner regions: Brest, Vitebsk, Grodno, Minsk, and Gomel regions, with which we implement specific economic initiatives. Forums and conferences play a special role in this, serving as effective platforms for direct dialogue and signing new agreements," said Olga Guseva, Minister of International and Interregional Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod region. "Nizhny Novgorod has unique experience — we are the only region in Russia that has developed and implemented a program for the development of intermunicipal cooperation with Belarus. It strengthens our ties and allows us to develop dynamically in all directions, including economic interaction. We cherish our spiritual unity, shared history, and traditions, and aim to build a prosperous economic future together and achieve new successes."
