Society The Nizhny Novgorod region has recorded another case of tick-borne viral encephalitis. This was reported by the regional Rospotrebnadzor department.

In total, four cases have been registered in the region since the start of the season. One case was linked to a bite from an infected tick in the Varna district, while the others involved trips outside the region: to Ivanovo Oblast, Altai Krai, and the Republic of Karelia.

It is noted that the affected individuals did not seek medical help immediately after the bite, and therefore did not receive emergency prophylaxis with immunoglobulin.

Additionally, 68 cases of tick-borne borreliosis have been identified in the region, including three children.

As of July 24, 2025, 7,328 people have sought medical assistance for tick bites in the region, including 2,150 children. This is 4% above the average multi-year rate. Reports have been made in 49 municipalities and 8 districts of Nizhny Novgorod.

Emergency prophylaxis using anti-tick immunoglobulin has been administered to 1,234 affected individuals, including 1,182 children.

Since the start of the season, 7,666 ticks have been laboratory-tested, collected from both humans (7,375) and environmental objects (291). In 1,370 cases, pathogens of diseases were detected — accounting for 17.9% of the total ticks examined.

Infection rates among ticks are 0.3% for tick-borne encephalitis virus, 15.6% for borrelia, 1.5% for anaplasma, and 0.4% for ehrlichia. In nine municipal districts of the region, 25 ticks infected with the tick-borne encephalitis virus have been found.

As of now, 9,208 people have been vaccinated against encephalitis, including 1,335 children.

Preventive acaricide treatments have been carried out on an area of 4,422 hectares, exceeding the planned scope. In places of summer recreation for children, 539 hectares have been processed — 99% of the plan.

Earlier, it was reported that the number of calls due to tick bites in the Nizhny Novgorod region increased by 9%.
