Society From January 1, 2026, the minimum wage (MW) is expected to be significantly increased, believes Sergei Mironov, the leader of the "A Just Russia — For the Truth" party. He proposed raising the MW from the current 22,400 rubles immediately to 50,000.
Mironov explained his position in an interview with the "360" TV channel, stating that the current level of MW does not correspond to modern economic realities. According to him, given current prices for products, fuel, and utility services, even this amount is insufficient to ensure a decent standard of living.
He also noted that inflation in the country has increased significantly from 2022 to 2024, which has led to a decrease in the ruble's purchasing power and citizens' incomes. As a result, many Russians face financial difficulties and cannot afford even basic necessities.
The parliamentarian emphasized that about 73.5 million people are employed in Russia, nearly half of whom earn less than 50,000 rubles per month. In his opinion, this indicates that a significant number of citizens are barely making ends meet, experiencing a lack of funds even to buy food.
Mironov believes that raising the MW to 50,000 rubles will be an important step towards improving the quality of life for Russians and reducing poverty levels in the country.
It was previously reported that the Ministry of Labor would raise the MW to 27,000 rubles in 2026. Meanwhile, according to surveys, residents of Nizhny Novgorod dream of a MW of 49,600 rubles.
