In Nizhny Novgorod metro, the use of metal tokens for fare payment is rapidly decreasing. They are being replaced by paper tickets with QR codes. This is reported by the Telegram channel "MetroNN".
These tickets are now issued at ticket offices and used to pass through turnstiles.
Metro employees explain that the company is transitioning to an updated fare payment system. Tokens are still valid since they haven't been withdrawn from circulation, but there are few of them at stations.
Experts emphasize that the shift to electronic payment methods has been ongoing for several years.
For those who value tokens as a commemorative symbol or collectible item, it's advisable to hurry — the "Kanavinskaya" station still has a ticket vending machine.
In addition to QR tickets, fares can be paid with a "Sityard" transportation card, a bank card, a smartphone, or "a smile."
It was previously reported that the reinforced soil is being tested at the construction site of the future "Freedom Square" metro station.
