Road services of Nizhny Novgorod have been put on high alert due to heavy rains that have struck neighboring regions. In particular, the Moscow Region received up to 84% of its monthly rainfall in a single day, and the downpour continues there.
According to meteorologists, July 21 may become the rainiest day in the history of observations in the capital since 1879. In connection with this, the Department of Transport and Road Facilities of Nizhny Novgorod stated that they are closely monitoring the weather situation in neighboring regions and are responding promptly to any changes.
“We also experience intermittent rain in our city, but it is less intense than in Moscow. Since the morning, water removal vehicles have been operating on the streets, addressing local flooding. Teams are clearing storm drains from debris and fallen leaves,” they reported to the department.
The agency added that a more powerful thunderstorm front from the capital may reach Nizhny Novgorod within the next 24 hours. In this case, the work of utility services will be organized around the clock.
The Civil Defense and Emergency Situations Department of the city reminds residents to take precautions during bad weather. Citizens are asked, if possible, not to go outside, avoid sheltering under trees, and motorists should reduce speed, maintain distance, and refrain from parking near trees.
It was previously reported that heavy rains will last in the Nizhny Novgorod region for another day.
