I was nobody. Vyacheslav Chepurchenko — about new projects and an unsuccessful experience in Nizhny.
Actor Vyacheslav Chepurchenko shared how he got into the series "Cash-in Transports"
Actor and show host Vyacheslav Chepurchenko gave an exclusive interview to NewsNN. He talked about new projects, trips to Nizhny Novgorod, and more.
The actor is known for roles in such films and series as "Juki" (16+), "Games" (16+), "GDR" (18+), "Betrayals" (18+). Chepurchenko was born in 1987 in Rostov-on-Don. In 2009, he graduated from the Theatre Department of the Saratov State Conservatory. Afterwards, along with classmates, he went to audition for People's Artist of the USSR Oleg Tabakov.
"We showed up, he thanked everyone and said that, unfortunately, there were no spots, many people. But as he was leaving, he pointed at me and asked me to stay. That’s how I ended up staying for 10 years at the Tabakerka," Chepurchenko recalled in one interview.
— Was your first meeting with Oleg Tabakov a turning point in your life? Do you think that if you hadn’t met him, your acting career might have turned out differently?
— Perhaps, if I hadn’t met him, I wouldn’t have had 11 years of theatre at the Moscow Tabakov Theater. But I think I would still have tried my hand at cinema. Or maybe I would have gone entirely to the Rostov Drama Theater, like many of my classmates.
But deep down, I always felt that something greater was ahead. Definitely, meeting him was a lucky ticket. Thank you for having enough brains at that age to take that ticket.
— You mentioned that in childhood you didn’t love theatre because it took your mother away from you. Do your children have the same experience?
— First, my mother raised me alone, which is a bit more complicated. Second, despite often being on set, I try to coordinate my schedule so I can spend time with my children. And, of course, my children have someone to stay with: their mother or a nanny.
— Which of your roles in film/series do you consider the most successful?
— I am proud of many roles. But most of all, Vitaliy Tymoshkin in the series "Games" (16+), and Yevgeny Stychkin. This character is a mash-up of everything I’ve done. It reveals facets of personality I wanted to show in such vivid, energetic characters who love life.
— A new series featuring you in the main role has just premiered on TNT. It’s called "Cash-in Transports" (16+). Tell us how you got into this project.
— I got into "Cash-in Transports" in an incredible way. I went to auditions, and I was approved. (Laughs) That’s my job – going to auditions where I either get approved or not.
— Is your character similar to you?
— My character is also a fighter for justice. Sometimes I flare up if something unfair happens. I’m ready to punch my fist into the chest.
— What do you think will attract viewers to this series?
— The series "Cash-in Transports" will grab viewers’ attention primarily because of its unusual setting—the way cash-in transport work is portrayed. For example, it will be interesting to watch the machinery and armored vehicle in action—all that "inside" stuff. Of course, it’s just props, but still, it’s unusual. I also really like the script and the dialogues between characters.

— What role do you dream of playing in cinema?
— I don’t have a specific dream role. Sometimes, minor characters, of which I have quite a few, are more valuable than the main ones. But I definitely like smart characters—cunning, multilayered, colorful. I dislike flat heroes.
— Can you call yourself a perfectionist?
— I wouldn’t say I am a perfectionist. Yes, when I take on a task, I try to do it as well as possible. But I don’t overthink it too much. I understand I need to move forward so I don’t lose my mind.
— You participated in several TV shows. Did your acting talent help you in any situations during filming or playing?
— Acting talent helps because both in one and the other, you need to speak, to warm up your speech apparatus. Sometimes, I was drawn to certain expressions of hosts. Even now, I enjoy catching participants with some phrases as a host, for example, on the show "Pogonya" (16+).
— If you hadn’t become an actor, what would you have done?
— Most likely, nothing. I would be drifting like Milky Way in milk, because I had no idea what to do after school. I was nobody and nothing. Thanks to thatunexpected encounter with friends, they literally encouraged me to apply to theatre school and advised me to audition. That significantly shaped my life.

— You have been to Nizhny Novgorod. What do you like about the city?
— The city is wonderful. I especially liked the cafes and restaurants—they are at a high level here.
— Name your favorite places in Nizhny Novgorod.
— I really enjoyed walking around the city center with my wife.
— You’ve visited Nizhny Novgorod, including the "Gorky Fest" (18+). What can you say about this film festival?
— I really like "Gorky Fest," it’s wonderful. I would gladly come again, but it all depends on my schedule. I remember even hosting the opening, but it was an unsuccessful experience. Maybe that’s why now I am just invited as a participant. (Laughs)
