Metro builders check soil strength at "Freedom Square"

      Society On the construction site of the future "Svoboda Square" metro station, soil testing continues, with the ground previously reinforced using modern technologies. The work being carried out is reported in the Telegram channel "MetroNN". To ensure the reliability of the foundation, specialists drilled 5,300 piles using jet grouting technology. Currently, engineers are studying how effectively this "soil vaccination" has worked. The tests are conducted in several directions. A special probe is inserted into the soil between the cement-soil elements to measure its resistance. Then, a hydraulic jack loads the pile, and instruments record how it deforms under pressure at each stage. As explained by Dmitry Novoselov, head of the laboratory support group at "Mosproject-3", during the surveys it was found that the soils in this area are excessively moist. Therefore, designers initially planned for the reinforcement of the cofferdam. There are three types of tests in total: static cone penetration testing to assess bearing capacity, pile load tests, and stamp tests of the soil between the piles. All these studies are conducted by specialists from a geological company to ensure the reliability of the underground foundation of the future station. The use of jet grouting technology significantly increases the strength of weak soils and reduces construction risks. Earlier, it was reported that active construction of the assembly chamber for the shields, which will be used during tunnel excavation toward the "Gorkovskaya" station, is ongoing at Svoboda Square.
