Photo and video cameras are installed on the new dedicated lanes in Nizhny Novgorod.

In Nizhny Novgorod, speed violation photo and video recording cameras have been installed on designated lanes: two violation detection complexes for traffic rules — on Lenin Avenue, and one each on Gagarin Avenue and Beketova Street. This was announced by the Center for Transport Systems Development of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

Currently, dedicated lanes for the city’s public transport are introduced on Vaneeva Street, Gagarin Avenue, Moscow Highway, Oksky Exit, Soviet and Beketova Streets, as well as on Lenin Avenue.

In 2025, the Nizhny Novgorod administration organized several new segments of lanes for route vehicles. For example, a long section has been arranged on Lenin Avenue — from Druzhby Street to Novikova-Priboy Street. The latest innovation is a dedicated lane on a busy section of Vaneeva Street (from Boris Panin Street to Kanashskaya Street).

According to acting Director of the Center for Transport Systems Development Alexander Bachurin, photo and video recording complexes play an important role in prioritizing public transportation.

“Cameras not only help reduce violations but also give priority to public transport. Analysis shows that in areas where cameras are installed, drivers are more disciplined and attentive, which in turn influences traffic rule compliance. Since the beginning of the year, nearly 30,000 orders have been issued in Nizhny Novgorod for driving in designated lanes. At the same time, there is a trend of decreasing violations. Thus, cameras are becoming a critical tool in creating a safer urban environment for all road users,” said Alexander Bachurin.

By the end of 2025, an additional four new complexes are planned to be installed that record vehicles leaving lanes designated for public transport.

Since the start of 2025, the length of dedicated lanes has increased by 4.4 km, or 28%. Currently, the total length of lanes for route vehicles in Nizhny Novgorod is about 15 km. After the implementation of other planned sites, the total length of dedicated lanes will exceed 18 km.

The Ministry of Transport and Highways of the Nizhny Novgorod Region urges drivers to follow traffic rules. Dedicated lanes are intended for public transport and ensuring schedule adherence on routes. This allows passengers to plan their travel time more accurately, making trips more convenient.
