In the Kanavinsky district, traffic police stopped a foreign car, with a 32-year-old Nizhny Novgorod resident at the wheel. During document verification, officers suspected the authenticity of the driver's license presented by the man.

As reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region, the document was seized and sent for examination. The analysis confirmed that the license was counterfeit.

A criminal case has been initiated under Part 3 of Article 327 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — forgery or circulation of official documents — by an investigator of Police Department No. 2 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Nizhny Novgorod. The offender, who has no prior convictions, was placed under a preventive measure in the form of a travel restriction and proper behavior.

The offender’s vehicle has been impounded and sent to a special parking lot.

Police reminded that manufacturing and using fake documents carry penalties—from fines and correctional labor to imprisonment for up to one year.

It was previously reported that traffic police may be authorized to revoke driver’s licenses based on medical indications.
