An outrageous incident occurred in Nizhny Novgorod — a woman’s body was mistakenly cremated at a local crematorium before all farewell rites were completed. This was reported by the television channel "Kstati..." (16+).
According to the information, a 87-year-old resident of Nizhny Novgorod passed away, and her relatives decided to bury her ashes next to her husband's grave in Stavropol. According to Orthodox tradition, a memorial service with a priest's participation and a farewell to the deceased should have taken place before cremation.
However, on the morning of the farewell, the relatives were horrified to learn that the woman’s body had already been cremated. The relatives were shocked by the incident. The granddaughter of the deceased admitted she was in complete shock over what happened.
Representatives of the crematorium apologized to the family and assured them that such an incident was the first in their practice. As compensation, the institution offered to refund 39,000 rubles spent on services and to provide a free urn for the ashes.
Vladimir Voroshukha, the director of the crematorium, called the incident a "irreparable mistake." He explained that the incident resulted from a "loss of concentration" by one of the staff members, who will face administrative punishment.
Earlier reports indicated that a funeral company in the Nizhny Novgorod region mistakenly "buried" a living patient.
