Nizhny Novgorod Region ranked 53rd among Russian regions in housing affordability. This is evidenced by a study conducted by RIA Novosti in May 2025.
Analysts evaluated how many years it would take for a family with one child and an average regional salary to save for a 60-square-meter apartment without taking out loans. The calculations considered only disposable funds remaining after minimally necessary living expenses, as well as income from deposits.
According to experts' estimates, a family in Nizhny Novgorod Region would need 3.9 years to save for housing. A year ago, this figure was 5.7 years, indicating an improvement. However, despite positive dynamics, the region ranks in the middle of the affordability rating.
The average cost of a 60-square-meter apartment in the region is 6.4 million rubles. For comparison, the nationwide indicator is slightly higher—6.9 million rubles.
Overall, housing affordability across Russia has improved. In May 2025, the average family needs 3.2 years to save, compared to 4 years last year. Experts attribute this positive trend to the growth of salaries and deposit incomes, which have outpaced the rise in real estate prices.
Over the past year, housing prices in the secondary market increased in 67 regions and decreased in 18. The leading regions in affordability remain the northern and Far Eastern regions. Outliers include Crimea, Sevastopol, and Kalmykia, where it will take over seven years of savings to purchase housing.
It was previously reported that Nizhny Novgorod ranked 62nd among Russian cities in housing commissioning in 2024.
