Rosselkhoznadzor prevented the import of infected nectarines with oriental fruit moth from Uzbekistan to the Nizhny Novgorod region.
On July 7, 2025, officials from the Rosselkhoznadzor Administration for the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Mari El, during quarantine phytosanitary control of imported under-quarantine products at the "Technoprom" temporary storage facility (Dzerzhinsk), inspected a shipment of fresh nectarines weighing 21 tons (originating from Uzbekistan) and detected a quarantine object—the oriental fruit moth (Grapholitha molesta Busck). Based on tests conducted at the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "VNIIZH," the nectarines were found to be infested with the oriental fruit moth (Grapholitha molesta Busck.), a quarantine pest. To prevent the spread of quarantine objects within the Russian Federation, the consignee of the contaminated product has opted for a quarantine phytosanitary measure—disinfection. The Rosselkhoznadzor Administration reminds that strict compliance with phytosanitary requirements is necessary when importing under-quarantine products into Russia. Timely identification and destruction of quarantine objects help protect the country's agro-industrial complex from potential threats.
For reference: The oriental fruit moth (Grapholitha molesta Busck.) is an insect that is a dangerous quarantine pest, limited in distribution within Russia. It originates from East Asia (China, Korea, Japan), from where it has spread to other countries and continents. The oriental fruit moth damages young shoots and fruits of nearly all fruit crops. It prefers feeding on peach, pear, and quince. Severe damage to shoots results in a lack of green mass growth. Damaged fruits are completely destroyed and become unfit for consumption.
