Once again, "Gorky Fest"!

      The IX "Gorky fest" will take place in our city from July 10 to 16. Its theme, participants, jury, and program were discussed at the press conference by the festival president, People’s Artist of RF Mikhail Porechenkov, the festival's general producer Oksana Mikheeva, and the film review’s programming director Andrey Apostolov.

      Russian Avant-Garde

      Mikhail Porechenkov shared that the main theme of this year's festival will be the avant-garde in cinema and Russian art overall. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the legendary film "Battleship Potemkin" by Sergei Eisenstein, and it is the Russian avant-garde, which influenced global culture, that forms the basis of the festival's concept.

      The competitive program includes 19 films, both feature-length and short films, narrative and documentary. They were selected from over 600 submissions!

      The best film will be chosen by a jury consisting of director Alexei German, screenwriter Darya Gratsevich, producer Alexander Plotnikov, composer Artem Vasiliev, and film critic Egor Moskvitin.

      Festival Venues

      According to Oksana Mikheeva, this year’s festival will be hosted across more than 60 venues.

      – The number of screenings at the main venue, the Gorky Nizhny Novgorod Academic Drama Theatre, will increase. Previously, only competition screenings took place there, but this year, it will host not only contests. This is very pleasing, as it’s a very convenient location for both guests and residents, providing opportunities for interesting meetings and networking. The true festival atmosphere is always present. Additional screenings will also be held at the "Record" Culture Center.

      Business and Educational Programs

      There will also be a business program where directors, producers, and industry representatives will discuss topics such as artistic freedom, cultural responsibility, the influence of streaming and technology, and prospects for Nizhny Novgorod’s film industry.

      The educational program primarily aims to immerse attendees in the work of Sergei Eisenstein in celebration of the 100th anniversary of "Battleship Potemkin." Lectures for aspiring directors and creative meetings with Alexei German and Darya Gratsevich will be held.

      The festival will open with the gripping film "Run" by Roman Artemyev starring Mikhail Porechenkov, Nikita Kologriviy, Daniil Spivakovsky, and Valentina Mazunina.
