Rospotrebnadzor provides recommendations for working in conditions of increased air temperature
Hot weather leads to worsened working conditions. It is especially difficult for those working outdoors or indoors without climate control equipment. Rospotrebnadzor provides several recommendations that should be observed in high temperatures. If air conditioning is available, maintain the indoor temperature at 24-25°C. If the temperature in an unconditioned workspace reaches 28.5°C, it is recommended to reduce the workday by one hour; if it rises to 29°C, reduce by 2 hours; and if the room heats up to 30.5°C, reduce by 4 hours. To prevent overheating (hyperthermia), a rational work schedule should be organized. For outdoor work at outside temperatures of 32.5°C and above, continuous work periods should last 15–20 minutes followed by rest of at least 10–12 minutes in cooled environments. The total thermal load during a shift should not exceed 4–5 hours for people wearing special protective clothing against thermal radiation, and 1.5–2 hours for those without special clothing. Working at outside temperatures above 32.5°C according to microclimate indicators is considered dangerous (extreme). It is not recommended to perform outdoor work at temperatures over 32.5°C. Work should be rescheduled to the morning or evening. To protect against excessive thermal radiation, use special clothing or densely woven fabric clothing. It is recommended to allow persons aged 25 to 40 to participate in such work. To prevent dehydration, properly organize and adhere to a drinking regime. Drinking water should be ample and readily accessible. The recommended temperature for drinking water, beverages, and tea is +10–15°C. To ensure optimal hydration, it’s also advisable to replenish salts and microelements lost through sweating by providing salted water, mineral alkaline water, fermented milk drinks (skim milk, whey), juices, vitaminized drinks, and oxygen-protein smoothies. Drink frequently and in small amounts to maintain proper hydration (the optimal water content in the body supports normal vital functions and metabolic processes). At air temperatures above 30°C and during moderate work, it is necessary to drink at least 0.5 liters of water per hour—about one cup every 20 minutes. Additionally, to support immunity and reduce intoxication, it is recommended, if possible, to consume fruits and vegetables, along with additional vitamins.
