Entrepreneurs from China visited Nizhny Novgorod to expand partnerships.
On August 27, 2026, at 17:17, a delegation of young entrepreneurs from the city of Chongqing, a partner region of the Nizhny Novgorod region in the People's Republic of China, visited Nizhny Novgorod. The foreign guests arrived to expand partnerships in the fields of industry, tourism, culture, and IT. The visit was organized by the Ministry of International and Interregional Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod region in collaboration with the regional branch of the All-Russian public organization "Young Guard" in accordance with the goals and objectives of the national project "International Cooperation and Export."
"Chinese entrepreneurs are extremely interested in cooperating with Russian businesses, and the Nizhny Novgorod region is of particular interest to them. That is why this meeting was organized, and I express my gratitude to the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region for their support. Among the delegation members are specialists in glass production, tourism, as well as cultural heritage preservation and crafts. I hope this visit will help us find common ground and successfully implement joint projects," said Roman Zykov, head of the regional branch of the All-Russian public organization "Young Guard."
During the visit, the delegation met with Olga Guseva, Minister of International and Interregional Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The event was also attended by Alexander Sinelobov, Minister of Digital Development and Communications of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Natalia Gvilia, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Crafts of the Nizhny Novgorod region, and Igor Ishchenko, General Director of the Nizhny Novgorod Development Corporation.
Opening the meeting, Olga Guseva emphasized the strategic importance of cooperation with China, which regularly ranks among the top three leaders in trade turnover among more than 120 countries that are foreign trade partners of the region. "In 2023, we signed an agreement on trade-economic, scientific-technical, and humanitarian cooperation with the People's Government of Chongqing. Since then, we have been actively interacting in various areas: economy, education, tourism, and culture. We are also developing inter-municipal cooperation: 14 out of more than 90 twin cities of Nizhny Novgorod municipalities around the world are in China. We have a twin city in Chongqing as well: in 2024, the corresponding document was signed between the Voskresensky municipal district and Wanzhou District," the minister noted.
One of the key areas of interaction with China is education. Currently, about 450 students from the PRC are studying at universities in the Nizhny Novgorod region, and approximately 100 cooperation agreements have been signed between Nizhny Novgorod and Chinese educational institutions. "We expect intensified cooperation in the educational sphere due to the announcement of 2026-2027 as the cross-years of education between Russia and China. A plan of activities has been approved for this purpose, within which Nizhny Novgorod and Chinese universities have planned more than 90 joint initiatives: from academic exchanges and summer schools to joint scientific-educational forums and festivals," added Olga Guseva.
During the meeting, Alexander Sinelobov spoke about the achievements of the Nizhny Novgorod region in the field of information technology, Natalia Gvilia presented tourism opportunities, and Igor Ishchenko showcased the investment potential of the region. "The meeting was promising; we see a growing interest from our Chinese partners in implementing investment projects in the Nizhny Novgorod region. We will definitely continue the dialogue for a more detailed development of joint initiatives in various areas," noted the general director of the regional development corporation.
Representatives from China expressed their interest in further deepening partnerships and implementing joint initiatives, emphasizing the importance of youth exchange. "Nizhny Novgorod and Chongqing are remarkably similar. Both cities are beautiful, and just as you have the Volga River, we have the Yangtze River. I am very pleased with our meeting and sincerely hope for cooperation between the youth of our regions," said Li Zhenglin, a member of the Standing Committee of the Chongqing Youth Federation and Chairman of the Board of Chongqing Industrial Company "Hua'en."
As part of the visit, the Chinese delegation also visited the A.M. Gorky Museum-Apartment and the IT campus "Neimark," walked along Kozhevennaya Street and the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, rode the funicular, and laid flowers at the Eternal Flame.
