The hunting season for feathered game has started in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      On August 15, 2026, at 13:21 Society From August 15, the season for amateur and sports hunting of feathered game will begin in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Hunting will be allowed for forest, marsh-meadow, waterfowl, and field birds in the hunting grounds, as reported by the regional Ministry of Forestry. The main season will last until November 30 inclusive. During this period, the hunting of woodcock, snipe, jack snipe, geese, ducks, coots, gray partridges, quails, and pigeons is permitted. For capercaillies, black grouse, and hazel grouse, the hunting season is longer – they can be hunted until February 28, 2027. When heading to the hunting grounds, one must take a hunting ticket, a permit for the storage and carrying of weapons, and a permit for the extraction of hunting resources. If hunting takes place in designated areas, a hunting voucher will also be required. Inspectors monitor order in the hunting grounds. They regularly conduct raids to identify violations and suppress poaching. The absence of the required documents entails administrative responsibility. Illegal hunting of animals may result in administrative or criminal charges under Article 258 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, as well as the obligation to compensate for the damage caused to nature.
