More than 100 window frames have been restored for houses in Purekh.
On August 23, 2026, at 12:30, Culture and Leisure. More than 25 sites have been put in order within the tourist route in the village of Purekh, Chkalovsky District of Nizhny Novgorod Region. The work was carried out by the non-profit organization "ASIRIS". The results were shared during the event "Purekh 2.0: Picnic on Lugovaya," which was attended by a correspondent from NIA "Nizhny Novgorod."
The repair work was of various types. In particular, specialists replaced and painted 695 square meters of roofing. Another 2,275.9 square meters of facades were repaired and painted, and 973.7 linear meters of fences and enclosures were put in order.
Special attention was paid to the traditional wooden decor of Purekh. Masters from the "Restoration School" of ASIRIS, along with graduates of the program "Repair, Restoration, Conservation, and Reconstruction of Wooden Structures and Details," worked on the decor for ten rural houses.
In total, specialists preserved and recreated 101 window frames. Of these, 55 were made according to authentic samples, and 16 were restored. Another 30 window frames were prepared for the historical building of the former school—house No. 89 on Lenin Street. The building was constructed in 1902 with funds from merchant Dmitry Sirotkin.
According to Oksana Krupina, head of the "Restoration School" of ASIRIS, participation in this work was also related to preserving the memory of Dmitry Sirotkin—a native of the neighboring village of Ostapovo, which is now part of Purekh.
"Moreover, one of the main crafts of Purekh is wooden carving, so it was an honor and an exciting experience for the masters and graduates of the 'Restoration School' of ASIRIS to work with local decor and preserve it. We tried to be worthy successors of the previous masters and hope for a careful attitude towards this heritage by the next generation," noted Oksana Krupina.
Since 2026, Purekh has been included in the "Golden Ring of Russia" route. The infrastructure of tourist areas is being developed as part of the national project "Tourism and Hospitality."
The history of Purekh spans several centuries. The village has been known since the 17th century when these lands were the estate of Prince Dmitry Pozharsky. Stone churches have been preserved there—cultural heritage sites: the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral of the 17th-19th centuries and the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit built in 1905.
Purekh is also known for its traditional crafts. Local masters were engaged in casting copper bells and jingles, which were presented at the 16th All-Russian Industrial and Art Exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod in 1896, as well as at foreign exhibitions. Another characteristic feature of the village remains wooden house carving, which combines the traditions of deaf Volga carving and the influence of Argun motifs and techniques.
