The head of the criminal code will be tried due to the partial collapse of a house in Balakhna.

      On August 20, 2026, at 18:38, Incidents In Balakhna, the investigation into the criminal case against the head of the management company was completed following the partial collapse of a residential building on Engels Street. This was reported by the Investigative Committee of the Nizhny Novgorod region and the regional prosecutor's office.

      Recall that on April 17, a huge crack appeared on building No. 54 from the first to the third floor. Part of the building settled. Residents were evacuated, and there were no injuries. Later, the building was declared emergency and subject to demolition, and residents were provided with temporary housing, as well as compensation for rental housing.

      After the incident, a criminal case was initiated under Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Negligence." Currently, according to the Investigative Committee, the director of the management company is accused of performing work and providing services that do not meet the safety requirements for the life and health of residents (part 1 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

      Investigators believe that from 2016 to 2026, the head of the company was aware of regular flooding in the basement but failed to timely organize its detection, poorly ensured the pumping of groundwater, and the drying of premises.

      The prosecutor's office clarified that the destruction of the structures occurred against the backdrop of rising groundwater levels, as well as an accident in the sanitary-technical system in the basement of the third entrance, which occurred two months before the collapse. As a result, numerous cracks and deformations appeared in the house, including in the foundation and walls, and the head of the management company improperly organized their elimination.

      This created a real threat to the life and health of more than 40 residents, including children.

      The agency added that earlier, at the request of the chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, a report on the progress of the investigation was sent to the central office.

      The criminal case has been sent to the Balakhna City Court for consideration on the merits.
