      On August 22, 2026, at 16:23, Society Journal "Urban Transport" published a ranking of public transport quality among 318 cities in Russia. According to the results of the study for 2026, Nizhny Novgorod took second place, scoring 77.8 points on the integral index.

      Experts evaluated seven key criteria: accessibility, demand for public transport, organization of transportation, comfort, environmental friendliness, efficiency, and development. The study is based on data relevant as of July 2026.

      The ranking was compiled using a unified methodology for all participants. Each indicator was scaled from 0 to 100 points, after which the final index was calculated. The greatest weight in the overall assessment was given to accessibility, demand, organization of transportation, comfort, environmental friendliness, and efficiency—15% each. An additional 10% was allocated to the development indicator.

      Nizhny Novgorod achieved the best result in public transport usage—99.5 points. For the organization of transportation, the city received 97.5 points, for environmental friendliness—84.8, and for comfort—82.6. Efficiency was rated at 68 points, accessibility at 53.1, and development at 50 points.

      In addition to second place in the overall ranking, Nizhny Novgorod entered the top ten leaders in three separate indicators. In public transport usage, it ranked 10th with a score of 99.54 points, in the organization of transportation—8th place with 97.53 points, and in environmental friendliness—also 10th place with 84.76 points.

      Other cities in the Nizhny Novgorod region were also included in the ranking. Arzamas took 87th place, Dzerzhinsk—100th, Vyksa—149th, Bor—168th, Pavlovo—220th, and Kstovo—295th.
