      The economy of the Nizhny Novgorod region maintained growth at the end of the first half of 2026. The growth of the gross regional product (GRP) based on preliminary results was +0.8%, while the overall growth in Russia was +0.3%. Ensuring the growth of the regional economy aligns with the objectives of the national project "Effective and Competitive Economy," which has been implemented in Russia since 2025 at the direction of President Vladimir Putin.

      "The economy has been functioning and continues to function under extremely challenging conditions. For 'rapid economic assistance' to Nizhny Novgorod enterprises, the regular operation of the operational headquarters was resumed at the governor's request. This allows for prompt decision-making on targeted and systemic support measures, preventing outright crisis situations. It is likely that the activities of the operational headquarters have been one of the reasons for the sustained growth of the region's economy. Work will continue, and the next meeting is planned to focus on the light industry," said Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Yegor Polyakov.

      The highest growth in the first half of 2026 was noted in retail trade—by 5.6% in comparable prices; in the IT sector—by 4.2%; in the agro-industrial complex—by 2.5%; and in manufacturing—by 0.2%. The construction, automotive, metallurgical production, and oil refining sectors remain a restraining factor.

      "The GRP growth has been recorded for the sixth consecutive year, and the trend has not been interrupted since 2021. However, considering the actual situation and the cautious course towards lowering the key rate, we do not expect significant economic revival by the end of 2026. We aim to keep it in the zero zone," summarized Yegor Polyakov.
