27.7% of Nizhny Novgorod residents earn a salary above the average in Russia.

      August 17, 2026 09:35 Economy The Nizhny Novgorod region ranked 27th in the rating of Russian regions with the highest share of workers receiving high salaries. This is evidenced by data from "RIA Rating." The share of workers in the region whose salaries exceed the national average was 27.7%, while those with salaries above two national average levels accounted for 5.1%. As noted in the study, on average across Russia, salaries increased by 14.3% in 2025. By the end of the year, the average salary exceeded 100,000 rubles. In 2026, the growth continued: the average salary in the country increased to 108,000 rubles. The main criterion in the fifth annual rating of regions by the level of high salaries was the share of workers whose incomes are above the national average, adjusted for prices in the specific region. The leaders of the list were the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Magadan Region, and Chukotka. At the bottom of the rating were Ingushetia, Chechnya, and Kabardino-Balkaria.
