The Nizhny Novgorod man who was hiding in the sofa was sent to forced labor.
On August 14, 2026, at 11:35, incidents occurred in the Leninsky District Court of Nizhny Novgorod, which sentenced a 56-year-old man who evaded alimony payments and tried to hide from bailiffs in a sofa, as reported by the press service of the regional court. The man was supposed to pay money for the maintenance of his minor child. However, during this time, he accumulated a debt of 220,000 rubles. At the same time, the Nizhny Novgorod resident, being a sole proprietor, had no income and did not attempt to find a job. In February 2026, he was already held administratively responsible for non-payment of alimony, but even after that, he continued to fail to fulfill his obligations for more than two months without valid reasons. As a result, a criminal case was initiated against the man, and he was placed on the federal wanted list. When the bailiffs came to his home, they did not find the owner himself. However, they noticed a dog that was circling around the sofa. The bailiffs looked inside the furniture and found the wanted man there. The Nizhny Novgorod resident was sentenced to eight months of forced labor. Another 10% of the man's earnings will be withheld for state revenue. The sentence has not yet entered into legal force. Earlier, it was reported that in Sormovo, a mother of five children was punished for walking with the babies while in a state of alcohol intoxication.
