      In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a project has been launched to protect intellectual rights in the field of artistic crafts. One of its directions is the systematic protection of Khokhloma from counterfeiting and unlawful commercial use. Alongside legal work, an educational project has begun on the lawful use of traditional cultural heritage. On July 30, the first episode of a three-part video podcast about the protection of intellectual property using Khokhloma as an example was released on Alexandra Fedorova's channel "New Russian Cultural Code." The project features Sofia Yudina, head of the ANO "Khokhloma," and Andrey Solonovich, director of the Trading House "Khokhloma." In the three episodes, the participants explain what is protected by law, how original products of the craft differ from stylizations and counterfeits, and why the use of the name "Khokhloma" is related not only to the design but also to the territory, production technology, and the labor of artisans. A separate topic has been the legal ways for designers, entrepreneurs, and modern brands to collaborate with folk artistic crafts. According to the press release, to date, ten lawsuits related to the unlawful use of the name "Khokhloma" have been filed in arbitration courts. Decisions have already been made in favor of the rights holders in five cases. The message also notes that the right to use the NMPHT in relation to products is granted to manufacturers who operate in the established territory, comply with production requirements, and have confirmed the characteristics of their products. In addition to legal work, monitoring of major marketplaces is being conducted, demands for the removal of goods with unlawful use of the protected name are being sent, test purchases are being carried out, counterfeit product sellers are being identified, and claims work is being conducted. In the Nizhny Novgorod region, as specified in the press release, comprehensive work is being carried out to preserve and develop folk artistic crafts. This includes supporting enterprises and artisans, developing modern design based on traditional technologies, promoting crafts, expanding sales markets, and protecting their intellectual rights. The history of Khokhloma painting spans over three centuries. The craft, which originated in Nizhny Novgorod, gained fame due to the technology of gilding wooden products without the use of precious metals. In 2024, the brand "Khokhloma" was created, with the mission of returning the Khokhloma craft to the everyday life of modern people and promoting it in various spheres of public life.
