VTB records a twofold increase in demand for voluntary health insurance among young people.
August 10, 2026 16:25 Economy Since the beginning of the year, the total number of opened unallocated metal accounts (UMAs) at VTB has increased by more than 25%, while the total volume of precious metals in these accounts has grown by 12%. The bank is recording a steady increase in interest in UMAs across all age categories of clients, but the most active dynamics are shown by the youth.
Young people aged 18 to 25 are more actively opening UMAs to build savings: the number of such clients has more than doubled over the year, exceeding 6,200 individuals. The average portfolio in this group reaches 85,000 rubles.
In other age groups, demand for UMAs has increased by about 1.5 times. The number of metal account holders aged 26-35 has approached 11,700 individuals, while the average investment amount has reached 270,000 rubles.
The 36-45 age category with UMAs is the largest, with up to 29,900 individuals. Their average savings in accounts exceeded 195,000 rubles. In the 46-60 age group, the number of UMA holders exceeds 35,500 individuals, and the average check is 574,800 rubles. The oldest age category (over 60 years) has 13,600 clients with UMAs. The average check for UMAs among these clients is the highest—1.7 million rubles. Traditionally, this age group includes the largest number of Private Banking clients, who actively consider precious metals for portfolio diversification.
“Precious metals are ceasing to be a niche product for professionals and are becoming a mass savings tool. Interest in them evenly spans all generations. The youth are just beginning to build their financial reserves, but the growth in demand among young people for UMAs is an important signal of the formation of a new financial culture. Middle-aged clients use UMAs for saving for large long-term purchases, while the older generation perceives gold and other metals as a reliable 'safety cushion.' This diversification of demand among clients of all ages confirms that unallocated metal accounts are not just a protective asset, but a full-fledged element of a personal financial plan at any stage of life,” commented Alexey Okhorzin, Senior Vice President and Head of the Retail Business Products Department at VTB.
Gold is traditionally perceived as a capital preservation tool—it is considered a “protective” asset—and allows for reducing the risk of ruble devaluation.
