      The Interregional Office of Rosprirodnadzor for the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Mordovia has completed an unscheduled on-site inspection regarding JSC "Sitimatik-NN". Control and supervisory activities were conducted at the Intermunicipal landfill for the disposal of non-recyclable solid municipal waste (MSW) in the territory of the Balakhna district of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The basis for the inspection was a fire at the facility in May of this year. Inspectors from the supervisory authority recorded a number of violations of environmental protection norms and requirements. In particular, it was established that waste placement at the landfill is carried out in deviation from the project documentation, which received a positive conclusion from the state ecological expertise, and the collection and drainage of leachate is not properly organized. There is only a channel for leachate accumulation on the western side of the landfill, resulting in a trench with leachate along the eastern side of the facility being partially overflowing, causing leachate to seep onto the dirt road around the waste burial site. During the inspection, waste containing useful components, the burial of which is prohibited by law (used car tires, PET bottles and canisters, aluminum cans, polyethylene film waste), was identified on the landfill map. At the entrance to the landfill area, unprocessed wood waste and soil contaminated with construction waste were recorded. Following the inspection, JSC "Sitimatik-NN" was held administratively liable, and the legal entity was issued a directive to eliminate the identified violations of mandatory requirements.
