A rare Fudzyvara effect was recorded in the Nizhny Novgorod region in July.

On August 4, 2026, 14:37 Science In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a rare atmospheric phenomenon known as the Fujiwara effect was observed in July. This was reported by the editor-in-chief of "Stationary Press," Alexey Nikонов, citing phenologist Mikhail Lyubov from the Arzamas branch of NNGU. Despite the average temperature being in line with climatic norms, July was hard to call calm. According to the expert, the second month of summer turned out to be filled with weather events. The region experienced noticeable temperature fluctuations: during the day, the air warmed up to +32 degrees, while by morning it cooled down to +7 in some places. The most oppressive night was on July 27, when the temperature did not drop below +20 degrees. As the specialist noted, thunderstorms were recorded in the Nizhny Novgorod region for nine days during the month. Moreover, on July 4, 27, and 29, they occurred twice within a day. Additionally, on July 4, a storm with wind gusts exceeding 20 m/s was recorded in the Arzamas district. From July 11 to 16, a rare Fujiwara effect formed over the Russian Plain. The Fujiwara effect refers to a natural phenomenon where two nearby hurricanes or cyclonic vortices interact with each other. The Nizhny Novgorod region was partially affected by the interaction and merging of the North Atlantic and Caspian cyclones. Frequent rains, according to Lyubov, helped reduce the risk of forest fires and positively impacted vegetation—yarrow and goldenrod were actively blooming. It is also noted that by the end of the month, the daylight hours shortened by about an hour and a half. It was previously reported that during the first working week of August, warm weather with temperatures ranging from +23 to +27 degrees would settle in Nizhny Novgorod.
