The mother of the Nizhny Novgorod man who died at the regatta will be paid 1.5 million rubles.

      The mother of the Nizhny Novgorod resident who died during a sailing regatta will receive compensation of 1.5 million rubles. The woman's lawsuit against the yacht owners was satisfied by the court, the press service of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Court reported.

      The tragedy occurred two years ago during a corporate event at the "Leto" yacht club. A sailing regatta was organized for the company's employees despite a warning from the Ministry of Emergency Situations about an approaching hurricane.

      During the outing, one of the yachts capsized. A young man fell overboard, was unable to escape from the water, and drowned.

      The yacht owners Alexander Meller and Alexander Trakhanov were involved in a criminal case for providing services that did not meet safety requirements. The mother of the deceased also went to court demanding compensation for the moral harm caused to her.

      The court granted the woman's claim. The defendants must pay her a total of 1.5 million rubles.
