The music festival "Great Russia" will take place for the sixth time in Nizhny Novgorod.

      This year, the festival is dedicated to the history of the glorious victories of the Russian army - from the era of Peter I to the end of the Great Patriotic War. On August 29 at 20:00, in Nizhny Novgorod, near the cathedral dedicated to the holy righteous prince Alexander Nevsky, the musical festival "Great Russia" will take place. For the sixth time, this large-scale cultural event will unite classical music, artistic word, and modern multimedia technologies. This year, the festival is dedicated to the history of the glorious victories of the Russian army - from the era of Peter I to the end of the Great Patriotic War. "The history of Russia is a living matter, woven from human destinies, triumphs, and tragedies. To truly understand the feat of our ancestors and feel it with our hearts, art often helps us. The festival 'Great Russia' unites the military history of Russia, music, poetry, and brings to life the heroes of battles from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the First World War, and the Great Patriotic War. Such a multi-genre format helps us become part of those distant events and understand the price at which history was written, and why we must preserve the memory of its heroes," noted the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin. The concert will be divided into several thematic blocks, each dedicated to a specific historical era. The audience will embark on a musical journey through the Northern and Seven Years' Wars of the 18th century, Suvorov's campaigns, the Patriotic War of 1812, the Russo-Turkish Wars of the 19th century, the First World War, and the Great Patriotic War. Each chapter of the program will reveal the most important pages of Russia's military history through the language of music, poetry, and visual art. The core of the musical program will consist of military marches - both regimental and works by great Russian composers such as Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Modest Mussorgsky, Sergei Prokofiev, Georgy Sviridov, and others. The literary line of the festival will feature works by Russian poets who participated in wars of different eras: Mikhail Lermontov, Nikolai Gumilev, Konstantin Simonov, as well as contemporary authors. The finale of the festival will be the Military March from Georgy Sviridov's suite "Blizzard," which unites the entire history of the Russian army from the 18th century to the present day. Traditionally, the performances will be accompanied by a large-scale video projection from the company dreamlaser on the facade of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. Specially created multimedia effects will complement the musical narrative with visual images related to the history of Russia, its culture, and military glory. The concert will feature soloists, a choir, and the orchestra of the Nizhny Novgorod State Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet named after A.S. Pushkin, conducted by the honored artist of Russia, conductor Vladislav Lavrik, as well as invited artists. The artistic director of the festival is Alexey Trifonov. The "Great Russia" festival is organized by the ANO "Center 800" with the support of the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region and the Nizhny Novgorod diocese. The main partner of the festival in 2026 is the news platform Zen. The holding of the festival this year has become part of the strategic partnership between Zen and the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region aimed at promoting cultural life and the tourist attractiveness of the region.
