In the duty unit of police department No. 7 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Nizhny Novgorod, a statement was received from a 42-year-old local resident about the theft of property from an apartment on Gorlovskaya Street in the regional center. According to the victim, her daughter's cohabitant, while in the living space, stole a television, a TV set-top box, a microwave oven, and gold earrings, causing material damage to the homeowner totaling 78,000 rubles. During the operational-search activities, officers from the district police's criminal investigation department established the involvement in the crime of a 20-year-old local resident previously convicted of robbery. The young man confessed and explained that he sold the stolen property to unknown individuals and spent the proceeds to pay off debts. During a search at the suspect's residence, a television and a microwave oven were seized as compensation for the material damage caused to the victim. A criminal case has been initiated and is being investigated under paragraph "b" of part 2 of article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft committed with significant damage to a citizen). The suspect has been placed under a preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave and proper behavior.
