The authorities explained when they will sign the contract for the "Vodnik" stadium in Nizhny Novgorod.

      August 3, 2026 12:52 Society The agreement for the comprehensive development of the "Vodnik" stadium territory in Nizhny Novgorod has not yet been concluded. This was reported by the NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" from the Ministry of Urban Development and Agglomeration Development of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      It was previously reported that the territory of the sports facility may be put up for auction in the first quarter of 2026. The department explained that the decision-making process regarding the non-residential development is carried out in several sequential stages. After the project decision is agreed upon and published on the official website of the regional government, a proposal for concluding the agreement will be sent to the property rights holder within the territory's boundaries.

      If the rights holder agrees, the agreement will be signed with them. In case of refusal, the region will be able to decide to conduct auctions. Then, the agreement will be concluded with the auction winner.

      According to the conditions, an architectural competition for the development project of the "Vodnik" stadium territory will be held after the agreement on comprehensive development is signed.

      Recall that in the summer of 2025, the stadium was recognized as emergency, and access to its territory was closed for safety reasons.

      In the fall of 2025, a master plan for the comprehensive development of the site was presented. On a plot of 4.5 hectares, it is planned to build 11,000 square meters of modern sports infrastructure. The size of the football field will be changed to 62×42 meters. The freed-up area will be allocated for a basketball court, a workout area, and running tracks—three sprint tracks and three circular tracks.

      In addition, a three-story sports complex with a year-round ice arena is planned to be built nearby. It could become the first modern ice facility in the center of Nizhny Novgorod. There were also reports of the possibility of constructing a multi-story building up to 140 meters high.

      Construction is planned to begin with social facilities. After completion, they will be transferred to municipal ownership and will be open for free access.
