Nizhny Novgorod residents were explained whether a deadly virus from the USA threatens them.

On August 3, 2026, at 09:22 Society In recent days, alarming reports about a new dangerous virus carried by ticks have once again appeared in the media. However, Russian epidemiologists see no reason for panic. This was stated by the editor-in-chief of MIA "Stationary Press," Alexey Nikonov, in his Max channel. According to him, the so-called American Bourbon virus does not pose a danger to Russia. The main carrier of the infection is the Lone Star tick. This species does not inhabit Russia. Furthermore, the virus is not transmitted from person to person. Even if someone brings it back from a trip to the USA, further spread will not occur. Migratory birds will not contribute to its emergence either: their routes do not intersect with the habitat of this tick species. Nikonov added that the Bourbon virus remains a rarity even in the United States and is considered more of an exotic. Nevertheless, specialists remind about precautionary measures during outdoor recreation. Russian ticks carry encephalitis and borreliosis, so the use of protective measures and checks after walks in the forest are still necessary. Earlier, it was reported that since the beginning of the year, 49 residents of Nizhny Novgorod have been infected with borreliosis, and 6 with tick-borne encephalitis.
