According to him, the so-called American Bourbon virus poses no danger to Russia. The main carrier of the infection is the Lone Star tick. This species does not inhabit Russia. Furthermore, the virus is not transmitted from person to person. Even if someone brings it back from a trip to the USA, further spread will not occur. Migratory birds will not contribute to its appearance either: their routes do not intersect with the habitat of this tick species. Nikонов added that the Bourbon virus remains rare even in the United States and is considered rather exotic. Nevertheless, specialists remind about precautionary measures during outdoor recreation. Russian ticks carry encephalitis and borreliosis, so the use of protective measures and inspection after walks in the forest is still necessary.
