A resident of the Astrakhan region was mistakenly declared dead in Bogorodsk.

      On August 3, 2026, 15:35 Society A resident of the Astrakhan region had to prove in court that she is alive. The case was heard in the Bogorodsky City Court. In November of last year, the woman began to apply for an old-age pension. However, at the Social Fund office in the Astrakhan region, she was informed that she had been listed as deceased since 2020. The death record was created by the Civil Registry Office of the Bogorodsky district based on a medical certificate. In March 2026, the woman appealed to the Prosecutor's Office of the Astrakhan region for help in declaring the death certificate invalid and annulling the corresponding record. The investigation proved that the information about her death was inaccurate. The woman was born in Kharabali, Astrakhan region, and had never lived in the Nizhny Novgorod region. She and witnesses confirmed these circumstances in a court session that took place via video conferencing. The court granted the claim. The record was amended to exclude the surname, first name, patronymic, and date of birth. The "Surname" field now states "Unknown." The decision has not yet come into legal force. Earlier, in January 2026, the Kanavinsky court heard a similar case. At that time, a resident of Nizhny Novgorod also had to prove that she was alive: her death record was mistakenly entered after another woman claimed her name. It was also reported that due to failures in digital systems, residents of Nizhny Novgorod could be mistakenly declared deceased in the compulsory health insurance system, leading to the annulment of policies and refusals of medical assistance.
