Retail trade turnover in the Nizhny Novgorod region increased by 4.8%
July 27, 2026 09:42 Economy The Nizhny Novgorod region ranked 50th in the rating of Russian regions by the dynamics of retail trade turnover for the period of January-May 2026. This data is provided in a study by RIA Novosti. Over the five months of this year, retail trade turnover in the region increased by 4.8% compared to the same period in 2025. Per capita, it amounted to 197.6 thousand rubles. The share of the Nizhny Novgorod region in the overall Russian retail trade turnover reached 2.26%. Moscow leads in retail trade turnover per capita at 263 thousand rubles. It is followed by St. Petersburg with an indicator of 261 thousand rubles and the Sakhalin region, where per capita it was 258 thousand rubles. The lowest values were recorded in Ingushetia, Karachay-Cherkessia, Sevastopol, and Tuva. In these regions, retail trade turnover per capita did not exceed 100 thousand rubles. Overall, across the country, retail trade turnover grew by 5% from January to May 2026, which is two percentage points higher than the previous year. According to analysts, this was largely facilitated by the growth of wages. At the same time, sales of non-food products increased by 7.2%, while food products grew by 2.8%. Positive dynamics were noted in 84 regions of Russia. The highest growth rates were shown by the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug (+18.8%), Ivanovo region (+12.2%), Krasnodar Krai (+11.5%), Bashkortostan (+10.8%), and Astrakhan region (+10.6%). In most subjects of the country, retail trade turnover grew by at least 5%. The only region where the indicator decreased was the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, where turnover fell by 2.9%.
