A gang of burglars was caught in Nizhny Novgorod.

      On July 29, 2026, at 12:30, Incidents: Police officers detained three men red-handed during a theft in the Soviet district of the regional center. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod region. According to the investigation, previously convicted local residents committed a series of apartment burglaries in four districts of Nizhny Novgorod from April to July of last year. They operated using the same scheme: first, they left "markers" on the doors, and then they picked locks using lock picks or similar keys. After receiving operational information, the police established surveillance on the suspects. In July, the men broke into an apartment on Izhorska Street, collected valuable items, and headed to a car where an accomplice was waiting. They were unable to carry out their plan to completion— all participants were detained at the scene. It has been established that the suspects committed 9 thefts. The total damage exceeded 4.5 million rubles. Among the stolen items were money, jewelry, household and office equipment, clothing, electric scooters, antique clocks, and alcohol. During searches, part of the stolen property was seized from the suspects, which has been arrested. Some items have already been returned to their owners. A criminal case against a 44-year-old Nizhny Novgorod resident, accused under paragraph "a" part 3 article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, paragraph "a, b" part 3 article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, and paragraph "b" part 4 article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft), with an approved indictment by the prosecutor's office, has been sent to court. The materials regarding the other participants have been separated into a separate proceeding.
